Foundation Excavation

Digging for foundations and cutting to concrete grade. The hole has to be the right depth, the right size and stable enough for people to work in it, and the bottom has to be right before any concrete shows up.

What the work involves

  • Foundation and footing excavation
  • Cutting to concrete subgrade for slabs and flatwork
  • Basement and crawlspace digs
  • Over-excavation and structural fill where the native ground will not carry
  • Backfill against foundation walls, placed in lifts
  • Spoil handled on site or hauled off

Who this is for

  • Builders and general contractors on a new build
  • Owner-builders who need the hole dug before the concrete crew arrives
  • Anyone adding a shop, garage or addition on an existing property

Foundation Excavation questions

How deep does a footing have to go around here?

Frost depth is 24 inches in Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties and 18 inches in Grant County. What actually sets the depth is the design and what we find at that elevation.

What if the ground at the bottom is no good?

Then we tell you before the concrete crew is standing there. Usually it means over-excavating and bringing in structural fill, and that gets priced before we do it, not after.
