What people worry about
The questions that come up on almost every storm drainage systems call.
A culvert that’s too small
Undersized culverts are the usual failure point, especially below burned slopes. Size gets set for the water that actually shows up.
Pipe that holds water instead of moving it
Storm pipe gets bedded and laid to fall, checked with a laser level, so it drains instead of sagging and silting up.
Paying twice
A storm system that closes out a permit has to meet the plan. We build to the drawings and hand over what the inspector needs to see.
The machine
Sized for residential access
This work is done with our Kubota U55-5 compact excavator: 6 ft 5 in wide on rubber tracks, 11 ft 11 in dig depth and 19 ft 7 in of reach. It fits most driveways and side yards a bigger machine can’t, and it’s easier on the ground getting there.

Water only pools a few times a year. Is it worth fixing?
Usually yes, because the few times a year are the times that do the damage. Freeze and thaw against a foundation costs far more than a drain line does.
Does burned ground change how a system has to be sized?
Yes. Burned slopes shed water at more than double the old rate, and that effect can last several years. Culverts sized for the old condition are the usual failure point.
What’s a drywell?
A buried chamber surrounded by rock that lets collected water soak into the ground. It works where the soil drains and there’s no good surface outlet.
