Grading & Drainage

Most water problems are grade problems. Correcting the fall across a site, cutting a swale, setting a culvert or running a drain line moves runoff away from foundations, driveways and outbuildings before it does damage.

What the work involves

  • Rough and finish grading
  • Positive drainage away from foundations
  • Swales and drainage ditches
  • French drains and footing drains
  • Culvert installation and driveway approaches
  • Regrading to correct standing water and erosion

Who this is for

  • Property owners with standing water, run-on or erosion
  • New builds that need finish grade before landscaping
  • Driveways and yards that shed water in the wrong direction

Grading & Drainage questions

Can grading fix water getting into a crawlspace?

Often, yes, if the water is surface run-off reaching the building because the ground falls the wrong way. Sometimes it is groundwater or a failed footing drain instead, and regrading alone will not fix that. We will tell you which one it looks like rather than sell you the work either way.

When is the best time of year for drainage work?

Any time the ground is workable. Seeing the site while it is actually wet is useful, because you can watch where the water goes instead of guessing.
